STORIES AVAILABLE :: Free workshops on "Imagining the future: New Exeter"

Date: 28 January 2010 09:45 to 16:00
Location: Exeter Central Library, Castle Street, Exeter, Devon EX4 3PQ

Details:

Stories written during the workshops are available on the "Imagine there's a future" project website.  "Each of them has been written from scratch in less than one hour, so should not be considered as being representative of that writer’s work. Most are fragmentary, or in very rough first draft form; none have had the benefit of the editing process. This hasn’t stopped the authors from producing invigorating work on a wide range of themes."

Also on 30 January, same time, same place.  Both workshops in partnership with Transition Exeter and Devon Libraries.

These two FREE day-long creative writing workshops will take a peek into Exeter's low-carbon future with Clare George, Writer in Residence at the University of Exeter, and Gill Westcott, Transition Exeter. Participants will work together to explore the conflicts and drama of life in our city beyond peak oil, with the aim of producing adventurous and entertaining fiction.

Following the workshops, all participants are invited to submit stories to be considered for inclusion in a showcase to be held at the Eden Project as part of the Daphne du Maurier Literary Festival in May 2010.

Bring your own packed lunch and refreshments, or cafes are located nearby at the Phoenix Centre in Bradninch Place, on Gandy Street and on Exeter High Street.

Pre-registration is essential, as only 10 places are available at each workshop. To book your place, email c.e.george@exeter.ac.uk with your name and email address by as soon as possible, but at least by 20 January 2010.
