Campaign for Better Transport meeting

Date: 1 March 2011 19:00
Location: Rowe Hall, The Mint Methodist Church, Fore Street, Exeter

Details:

The Campaign for Better Transport in Devon are holding a public meeting about Bus Services and Fares in Exeter. The transport group work closely with CBT and this is a good chance for anyone concerned about sustainable transport in Exeter to hear about the threats to bus services and help to come up with solutions.

The meeting will take place on Tuesday, 1st March in the Rowe Hall at the Mint Methodist Church in Fore Street, beginning at 7pm. City Bus Operator Stagecoach have been invited to the meeting as well as all of Exeter's city and county councillors.

Local bus services are threatened by cuts to the Bus Service Operators Grant, cuts to County Council spending on services and rising fuel prices.

The Campaign for Better Transport has been active in trying to improve the transport planning for Exeter's future expansion. With Exeter set to see the building of large numbers of houses and flats around Pinhoe, Rydon Lane and Topsham Road, the group has been urging for huge improvements to rail and bus services as a pre-condition to allowing such developments in these areas. The group has also been pressing for permanently lower child fares and student fares. Campaigners argue that many students won't be able to afford travel to college if cuts are imposed as currently being proposed.
