Is Consumerism consuming you?

Date: 23 February 2011 18:30
Location: Friend's House Wynard’s Lane, Magdalen St., Exeter EX2 4HU

Details:

Our programme of once monthly evening events continues this Spring, where we will be thinking about how we cope with the persuasive effects of advertising , and the pressure to 'keep up with the Jones’ particularly in the face of cut backs and the compelling need for a more sustainable life style.

The fourth open meeting  in this series will draw on  the film Affluenza as a stimulus for discussion and   sustainable thinking. AFFLUENZA is a groundbreaking film that diagnoses a serious social disease - caused by consumerism, commercialism and rampant materialism. The film argues that ‘consumerism’ is having a devastating impact on our families, communities, and the environment. We have more stuff, but less time, and our quality of life seems to be deteriorating. By using personal stories, expert commentary, hilarious old film clips, and "uncommercial" breaks the film helps  illuminate the nature and extent of the 'dis - ease'.

As before the  session will take place on the  evening  of  Wednesday 23rd of  February 6.30(Teas) for 7.00pm upstairs at Friend's House Wynard’s Lane, Magdalen St., Exeter EX2 4HU  Please contact Gail on su7027@eclipse.co.uk if you need further details and  information. A contribution of £2.00   from those that can afford it will help with room hire and costs of refreshments. Everyone welcome!
