Retailer Energy Efficiency Award Scheme

The Retailer Energy Efficiency Award Scheme has been initiated in partnership with Envision SW and has been endorsed by Exeter City Council. It aims to raise awareness amongst retail managers and their staff of the measures they can take to reduce energy consumption. Retail lighting, in particular, has been identified by the Centre for Energy and the Environment (based at Exeter University) as the area where greatest savings can be made, by moving from average practice to good practice. Shoppers will also be made aware of energy efficiency through display of the awards in the shop fronts.

This is how the scheme works:

  • Register your interest by calling 01392 277490 or 811878.
  • Transition Exeter will visit your store at a time convenient to you to discuss the scheme in detail.
  • You will be provided with a guidance document on energy efficiency measures.
  • Once you have met certain basic criteria you will receive a "Signed Up" sticker, which should be displayed in your shop front, indicating your participation in the scheme.
  • Your store will be re-visited after an agreed time period, to check progress with a view to receiving an "Energy Efficiency Award".  This is based on evidence of energy management in the store, and reductions in consumption of fossil fuels and hence in carbon dioxide emissions.
  • To cover administrative costs only, we are asking for a signing-up fee of £25.
  • We anticipate considerable publicity attached to the award.
